Guilin China and surrounding areas would be one of the most beautiful regions of China.

In 1981 this ancient city was listed by the China State Council as one of four cities where the protection of historical and cultural heritage, as well as the scenery, should be treated as a priority project.

The other three cities were

Beijing , Hangzhou, and Suzhou.

Guilin China is an area that can be visited during any season, though a little cold in the winter. The spectacular “Karst” or mountain formations are amazing to see, at any time of the year.

These mountain formations were created more than 200 million years ago when the oceans receded. They rise from a landscape of rice fields, rivers and streams, forming a very magical, dreamy image of China as it once was.

Guilin City itself is generally used as a base, from where all the major attractions of the area can be visited.

Here is a basic Guilin China map of the city that may come in handy.

One of the highlights being the “Li-River” cruise from Guilin to Yangshou.

This cruise will leave you breathless and takes in all the wonders of the area and riverbank life of the Chinese. Water buffaloes, rice plantations, local fishermen.

To fully describe Guilin China, the Li-River and this district, is difficult to put into words; you really have to see it to believe it.

• Seven Star Cave - The Seven Star cave is a million year old cave that was originally part of an underground river.

• Elephant Hill - At the convergence of the Taohua and Li rivers, is a remarkable hill that looks like an elephant drinking water.

• Yangshou - an ancient town about 60 kilometers from Guilin, this town is one of the most beautiful places in China and a very necessary part of any China Vacation.

For many years this place has been a haven and resting point for the Independent China travel style backpacker.
