Guizhou China covers 176,000 square kilometers and is situated about 1000m above sea level.

Mountains and plateaus make up some 65% of the region. The terrain is rugged, with limestone karst formations, spectacular waterfalls, underground rivers, jagged peaks, dramatic valleys, terraced rice fields and awesome scenery.

The flower and plant life within this area is particularly spectacular due to this area having plenty of rain throughout the year.

It has a population of about 35 million, of which 65% is Han and the rest a mixture of minorities such as Miao, Bouyei, Dong, Yi, Shui, Hui, Gelao, Zhuang, Yao, Bai and Tujia.

The Miao and Dong largely inhabit the land in the east, the Boyei (related to the Thai) in the hot south, and the Yi and Hui live in the hills in the west of the province. The minority groups here are gregarious and welcoming, still today dressing in exotic clothing and colors even when working in the fields.

The thunder of the falls can be heard for some distance, this larger fall and 10 minor falls are at their most spectacular about five days after heavy rain between May and October.

Unlike other mountain caves in China, the Dragon Palace is actually a group of five successive water-eroded caverns connected by an over 3000-meter (nearly two miles) long underground stream, nearly 1000 meters (3,280 feet) of which has been opened to the public. You can take a boat trip through each cave and appreciate the various stalactites, rock formations and stone pillars as if they were taking a trip to the legendary crystal palace where the Dragon King lived in the sea. The narrowest part of the cave is only two meters (6.6 feet) in width and the highest point can reach over 80 meters (262 feet).

In front of the Dragon Palace, there is an alpine lake surrounded by steep cliffs and towering rocks. It is called 'the Heavenly Lake' and it is the source of the stunning forty-meter high underground waterfall in front of the palace cave.

In this small town, Western cultural influences have blended with Chinese civilization, Catholic and Christian churches co-exist with Buddhist and Taoist temples.
